USC athletic director Pat Haden threw his full support behind embattled head coach Lane Kiffin in the wake of a recent report saying he would be named in an NCAA violations case at Tennessee.

AOL Fanhouse reported last Wednesday that Kiffin would be cited for a failure to monitor violation arising from his time as head coach of the Volunteers. Kiffin’s brother-in-law David Reeves, who was an assistant on staff, will reportedly be cited for improper contact with recruits.

“I read the report and I know he can’t comment on it,” Haden said. “I can’t really ask a lot about it because it happened at Tennessee. Right now it really is not a USC issue.

“What I know of Lane Kiffin is he’s been more than compliant with everything we ask. He is doing the right thing and we’ll see how this report turns out, how the investigation goes, what the results are, I just have no idea what’s going to happen. All I know is our (case) took a long time and I don’t know how long this will take.”

The violations stemmed from a group of school hostesses who allegedly made improper contact with several recruits, with Reaves reportedly instructing the hostesses on how to contact the recruits. It was one of several alleged violations committed by Tennessee during Kiffin’s short tenure at the school. Despite the run-ins with the NCAA at his previous school, Haden believes Kiffin is doing everything by the letter of the law at USC.

“I did not hire Lane but in my seven months, he has been very positive in terms of compliance,” Haden said. “The reputation and reality of Lane Kiffin are two entirely different things. I understand what his reputation is but the reality that I’ve dealt with is not that reputation.”

USC was placed on four years of probation by the NCAA for violations stemming from a lack of institutional control following an investigation centered on the school's football and men’s basketball programs. The school is currently appealing several of the sanctions placed on the football team but Haden did not think the recent news would have any effect on the appeal.

“I sure hope not,” he said. “Those are two separate cases and it should not, that’s the Tennessee case. The way these play out, I would expect we’ll hear from the Appeals Committee long before the Tennessee situation is taken care of.

Haden spoke to reporters following a six hour summit designed to discuss issues related to agent awareness and education. Representatives of the Pac-10, SEC, NCAA, NFL and NFL Players Association were in attendance.

Haden supportive of Kiffin despite new allegation

@714area--It would appear that it is you that does not have a clue what he is talking about.  USC self-imposed penalities related to the basketball issues, and the NCAA accepted them.  There were no additional penalities, but there were penalities for the basketball team.  I would think that as a fan of USC, you would know this.

as usual you have no clue what your talking about. mens basketball got no penalties so why bring it up. i would think that as a journalist you would show some responsibility and know that Guillroy and Mayo both got the ok from the NCAA before stepping foot onto USC.

Haden supportive of Kiffin despite new allegation

All of the SEC lovers in here will hate Kiffin to their dying day.  That is the mentality of the average SEC fan.  The fact is this.  What happened at Tennessee is Tennessee's problem.  The practice of school hostesses had been going on at Tennessee for years before Kiffin got there.  I love the term "imporper contact".  We all know what type of "contact" they are referring to, and it is safe to say that it is not phone, or twitter "contact."

The fact is that Kiffin has gone out of his way to make sure that the USC program is compliant.  He went so far as to suspending a player for taking a ride in a golf cart from one end of the campus to another.  Pat Hayden has stepped up to defend Kiffin.  Kiffin had another successful recruiting campaign this year.  Perhaps if UCLA A.D. Guerrero would taje an interest in his football team and defend his head coach, UCLA would not be the laughing stock of the Pac-12.  School is still out on Kiffin's success at USC, but at least he has the full support of his A.D, something that Neuheisel can onoy dream about across town.

Haden supportive of Kiffin despite new allegation

Clearly, Kiffin can be blamed in part for this, if the charges are true.  The allegation states that the girls were directed by a member of the coaching staff, and Kiffin was the leader of the coaching staff.  But, Kiffin worked for Tennessee at that time, so the AD at Tennessee is really the most responsible as he is the one that hired Kiffin and was supposed to oversee him.  If there are penalities from this, Tennessee will have to deal with them.  There should be no reflection of USC whatsoever related to this issue.  USC will have plenty of issues on their own with Kiffin as their coach.  I am surprised Haden is this naive when if comes to Kiffin.  He better watch that guy like a hawk or he will hurt that program for years and years to come.

Haden supportive of Kiffin despite new allegation

We can't soon will blame Kiffin on this one.  The volunteers trojans have always had female volunteers Song Girls who were rather aggressive in helping recruits choose Tennessee U$C. Just google "tennessee volunteers hostesses pictures" "U$C Song Girls" sometime and you will figure it out real fast. These hostesses Song Girls are hot sexy and aggressive. If you are an 18 year old male, and one of theses hotties says she would do "what it takes: for you to volunteer your services to the Vols Condoms, what do you think is going to happen?

All fixed, and ready for publication.
