We're approaching the end of the regular season in college football, which means a couple of things.  One is that we can all start wringing our hands over which teams deserve to play for a national title, and another is that award season is drawing near, and finalists are being announced.  Like the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, which announced its three finalists on Monday.

Who are those finalists?  Drumroll, please!
  • Cam Newton, Auburn
  • Andrew Luck, Stanford
  • Kellen Moore, Boise State
Not exactly a shock to see any of those three make the final cut, as both Newton and Moore are leading two undefeated teams with title hopes, and Luck is the driving force behind one of the best Stanford teams in recent history.

The finalists are chosen were selected by the award's National Selection Committee, along with a fan vote that made up 5% of the total.  The criteria for choosing the three finalists were their quarterback skills, academics, character, leadership and sportsmanship.  Now, obviously, depending on what we learn about Cam Newton and the current NCAA investigation surrounding him at the moment, his character could definitely have a large impact on whether or not he wins the award when the winner is announced on February 21.

Atltig...we could always go with the simple argument:

Newton: 3,335 all purpose yards, 38 TD's, and 6 ints.

Mallet: 3,272 yards, 27 TD's, and 9 ints.

Sorry Mallet isn't even close. You have a better chance making an argument that he belongs over Kellen Moore.

As is Cam Newton. You will see many players succeed under Gus Malzahn. Mark my word.

But Mallett should be on this list.

As a non-arky fan, I have to disagree as the players named all have had better seasons overall than Mallet.  I would say he could potentially take the Boise St. guys position b/c as always, they DON'T PLAY ANYBODY!  Of course I'm tired of hearing all the hating on Newton b/c it's ridiculous what it's come to, but there is absolutely no denying the guy's ability and production.  Your argument for Mallet against Newton is more of the "well the girl wasn't that good looking but has a nice personality" type.

I see Mallet leaving and doing well in the NFL.  He's got a cannon and accurracy when he's got his head on right.  If he doesn't go in the 1st, he'd definately go quickly in the 2nd.  He seems to need a coach that's going to have to stay on top of him to make sure he doesn't lose his cool, but anyone that doubts his abilities is kidding themselves.  (Not a Arky fan btw.)  On a side note, the backup to Mallet is a beast when it comes to passing too!

Anyone who calls Mallet a system QB either:

(a) doesn't know what a system QB is
(b) has never seen Mallet play
