College kids and pot, they go together like cheese and crackers. Like Lindsay Lohan and a bottle of vodka. You can find marijuana just about anywhere on a college campus, and if you live on a campus, and are of a business-oriented mind, you might see the potential to make some money via the demon weed. Which is exactly what a couple of Washington State players and their two roommates were up to.
Unfortunately business tends to come to a screeching halt when the police come through your door and find 38 marijuana plants growing inside your house (38! ). Pullman police showed up at the rented house of redshirt linebacker Jamal Atofau and Andre Barrington with a completely unrelated search warrant when they found the horticulture project the players and their two roommates were involved in.
"We're in a college town, it's not that unusual to find five or six plants growing in somebody's individual bedroom," said police spokesman Chris Tennant. "Thirty-eight plants in a residence is quite a big deal for us."
All four of the entrepenuers were booked and released on their own recognizance, and charged with a violation of the uniform controlled substance act. The severity of the charges they'll end up facing is yet to be determined, as it depends on the weight of the weed that was siezed, and the police are waiting for the pot to dry before figuring that out.
Washington State coach Paul Wulff has suspended Atofau indefinitely, though a suspension for Barrington isn't necessary since he's academically ineligible and hasn't been practicing with the team this year. Which left him with plenty of time to water his plants, I'm sure.
